Drug allergies can pose a significant problem to those affected because the drugs that cause problems are some very important drugs.  Scientists made fantastic discoveries with some drugs that changed the world by saving many people from diseases.  Unfortunately, some people with drug allergies cannot use these drugs if they become ill with serious diseases.  Drug allergies affect many people in several ways.  The reactions to drug allergies may be a rash of red bumps that appear on one area of the body.  Other reactions to drug allergies could be very serious and even life threatening. 

Although drug allergies are rarely fatal, these drug allergies have killed some people.  One of the serious problems about drug allergies is the initial reaction could be the first warning sign of the problem.  Often people do not even have a reaction to these allergies the first time that they take the drug.  The second time they take the medicine the drug allergy could appear with harmful effects.  Some reactions to medicine are not because of drug allergies, but these are due to the interaction of two or more drugs.  People who have any kind of reaction should consult with their doctor to find the root cause of the reaction. 

Drug Allergies Are Due To Problems With The Immune System

These allergies are often due to a reaction of the immune system in a person.  The immune system works to eliminate any problems introduced into the system of a person.  Sometimes these systems overreact and this can cause the problem for people with allergies.  The immune system releases substances to prevent a problem, but certain people end up with an different problem.  Certain types of drugs are often the ones that cause this type of reaction.  These drugs include painkillers, antibiotics and seizure medications.

Sometimes people take too much of one of these drugs while at other times the reaction is due to frequent use of a particular drug.  The people with these allergies will develop a rash, hives or fever when exposed to certain drugs.  People could also experience swelling of their lymph nodes or kidney inflammation.  There are some very serious reactions including breathing difficulty and rapid heart beat.  The reactions often occur within four hours of taking the problem drug.  A person who experiences any of these symptoms should immediately contact their doctor for advice and treatment.  A person who experiences breathing difficulties should immediately go to an emergency room at a hospital.
